  • Description: During the summer, regular sightseeing cruises along the canal at Lockport are offered several times daily. The departure point at 210 Market Street, north of the downtown area at the foot of the hill is a restored old warehouse with a most interesting display and reception area. It may be too far for you to walk to from the central canal district and downtown.  Items of a Lockport nature are offered for sale. A modest food and refreshment bar is available with plenty of outside and inside seating. The narrated boat tour is informative and well done. It takes about 2 hours.

  • Description:  Saturday will be a ful day of picnicking on the Erie Canal.  The day will kick off with a Heritage Hurry-Up walk along the canal on both sides.  It starts at 10am at the Marina.  There will be various forms of entertainment at the Marina throughout the day, including music.  Food vendors will also be available during the day.  Bring your family and a picnic lunch and meet your neighbors as we have a city picnic along the historic Erie Canal.
  • On Sunday, at 7pm, Doug Farley of the Erie Canal Discovery Center will be conducting a Historic Lockport Lantern Tour.  This walking tour encompasses the area of the Erie Canal around the Big Bridge relating history, architecture and local folklore. Tour begins at the Erie Canal Discovery Center (located at 24 Church Street)and includes a tour of the Center.

  • Description:  We are hosting a Learn to Ski Clinic to teach people how to waterski and wakeboard.  The participant must choose one of the three sessions (8:30-11:00, 10:30-1:00 and 12:30-3:00pm)to participate in.  They will go through a series of stations on land then advance to the water.  They will go out twice on the boat for approximately 15-20 mins per turn.  There is no age limit but participants must be acclimated to the water.  Students MUST pre-register at 518-356-4358.
  • Driving directions:  Take Exit 25, straight off exit to I890. Follow I890 to exit 4C (Scotia, Rte. 5).  Follow ramp to light at State Street in front of Schenectady County Community College.  Take a left onto State St./Mohawk Ave. follow over the Western Gateway Bridge.  As you approach the end of the bridge, bear right onto Schonowee Ave. You will see Jumpin' Jack's on right.  Go to the rear of the parking lot.

Revolutionary War Bicycle Tour

  • Description:  The Revolutionary War Bicycle Tour is a family-oriented bike ride.  We'll take a very casual tour through the Village of Scotia, with three stops to tell stories related to the Revolutionary War.  Of course, we'll speak about George Washington!  But how did John Hancock get America's first cannon?  Stories include America's worst traitor (Boo! Hiss!), the bookseller who booted the British from Boston, and the phony who made the Continental Army strong enough to win the Revolution.  We'll relate the actions of these famous (and infamous) people to today's world, so cyclists can gain an appreciation for historic events.
  • Driving directions:  From the north: Route 50 into Scotia, turn right onto Mohawk Ave (Route 5), follow Mohawk Ave past Gabriel's Market, turn left onto South Reynolds, follow South Reynolds to the end.
  • From the west: Thruway exit 26, ramp to 890 west and Route 5S, follow signs for Scotia/Glenville/Route 5, cross over Mohawk River, turn right onto Route 5 at light, follow Route 5 into Scotia, turn right onto South Reynolds, follow South Reynolds to the end.
  • From the east: Thruway exit 25 to 890, out of the tolls follow 890 to exit 4C, at light at end of ramp turn left onto Route 5, cross the Western Gateway bridge into Scotia, follow Route 5 (now Mohawk Ave) past Gabriel's Market, turn left onto South Reynolds, follow South Reynolds to the end.
  • From the south: I-88 to Thruway exit 25A, west on the Thruway to exit 26, then follow directions for "from the west."
  • Public Trans:  Check CDTA for scheduled routes to Mohawk Avenue.

  • Description:  Star shows in the Henry Hudson Planetarium take place at 11am - Skytellers Program: Exploration of space science concepts through Native American legends; 1pm - Star Sighting Program: Learn to identify stars, planets, comets and constellations and the tools and techniques for becoming a sky-watcher; and 2pm - Zoo In The Sky: Interactive program geared to pre-school and elementary aged children, exploring the animals on earth and up in the sky.

  • Description:  Peebles Island State Park and the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor/Peebles Island Visitor Center is at the confluence of the Hudson and Mohawk Rivers. The park offers spectacular river rapids, views, and miles of paths through the wooded landscape. Park includes Revolutionary War earthen fortifications. Picnickers and fishermen come to relax here. In winter, visitors use the facilities to cross-country ski, hike and snowshoe. Museum/Visitor Center is open to the public.
