  • Location:  Under the Bridge on the Hudson River between the City of Glens Falls and the Village of South Glens Falls
  • Description:  Made famous by James Fenimore Cooper's novel "The Last of the Mohicans", view the hiding site of Hawkeye and his companions where they attempted their escape. Scenic platform with interpretive signage.
  • Driving directions: Coming from North on I-87: Exit 18, Head East on Corinth Rd. and head into City of Glens Falls, Turn right onto Route 9 South, cross bridge. Turn right immediately after bridge, then right again into lot.
  • Coming from South on I-87: I-87 north to Exist 17N, Head North on Route 9, Bear Left onto Main St.,South Glens Falls, Turn left at light just before bridge. Turn right into lot.
  • Handicap:  Yes
  • Comments:  This site will be completed with a hard-topped road, picnic tables, and landscaping. Phase One just opened to the public for the first time on Memorial Day weekend; Phase Two is expected to be completed by the end of Autumn 2006/Spring 2007. Where Fiction Meets History!

Annual Canoe and Kayak Race

  • Description :  The 17th Annual Feeder Canal Canoe/Kayak Race is a safe  and easy 5 mile race in the historic feeder canal that begins at the Feeder Dam at Richardson Street (East of Northway Exit 18 in Queensbury) and finishes at the Martindale Boat Basin in Hudson Falls.  Registration from 9:30-11:30 and races begin at noon. Entry fee $20/solo paddler and $30 for 2 paddlers. Ribbons and T-shirts awarded and all paddlers entered into the Paddler's Raffle for prizes. The five mile race classes include Solo Kayak, Solo Canoe, Tandem Canoe (2 peoople), recreational as well as other categories from amateur to pro. Participate or watch from the banks of the 7 mile Feeder Canal Towpath trail.
  • Driving directions:  The Start of the Race: From the Adirondack Northway (I-87): If  coming from the south, turn right at the end of the exit ramp. If coming from the north turn left at the end of the exit ramp.  Approzimately 1/2 mile from the Northway, turn RIGHT at the traffic light onto Richardson Street.  Proceed to the end where you will find the parking area and registration table.
  • The Finish of the Race: Martindale Boat Basin, Hudson Falls, NY. Turn LEFT from the Richardson Street parking area and continue on Richardson Street back to the traffic light. Turn RIGHT and follow the Y intersection (Stewarts Shop) At light bear RIGHT heading towards the Glens Falls Hospital.  At the five way intersection in the center of Glens Falls, continue straight on Warren Street to Hudson Falls Circle (several miles)(Rte 32 then Rte 254) Complete the circle around the park in Hudson Falls heading back follow Rte 4 NORTh to Martindale Street. Turn RIGHT on Martindale (aprox. 3/10 of a mile) - Boat Basin on the left.

Cabaret On The Canal

  • Description:  Join your friends for an evening Cabaret on the Canal with live music, hors d'oeuvres, and a silent auction to benefit the Feeder Canal Alliance.  Take an evening stroll on the towpath trail along the historic feeder canal, built in 1824 to provide water to the Champlain Canal from the upper Hudson River.

  • From the Northway (I-87) Take exit 18 turning right and following 254 E to a left onto Dix Avenue. Take a right onto Rte 4 to Hudson Falls.  Murray Park is located on Rte 4 and Melbourne Avenue.

  • Description:  Enjoy a scenic one and a half mile cruise down the Hudson River and enjoy sites associated with the beautiful and one of the most historically significant areas nationwide. Guests will board at 1:30pm and have the option of enjoying the cruise, or also pre-registering for a boxed lunch.Also taking place at Lock 5 will be New England Mini Owners Association event at the picnic area at Lock C5 at approx. 1PM. Any Mini owner who wishes to display his car will receive the NEMO discount. Champlain Canal Tour Boats, LLC is located on the historic Hudson River/Champlain Canal waterway. This peaceful and scenic area, rich with natural beauty and wildlife, was central to the Battle of Saratoga ˆ the „Turning Point‰ of the Revolutionary War. The event is open to the public. We are not technically handicapped accessible, as in ramp.  The boat is easily accessible however, by 2 steps down and 2 steps up.
  • Driving directions:  Exit 14 on Rte 87 (Saratoga Springs, Schuylerville exit).Head east on Rte 29 until you reach Schuylerville, turn left (head north) onto Route 4 for 0.5 mi.,  turn right into Lock 5 Island parking area.
  • Food:  Boxed lunch available for purchase
  • Comments:  The riverboat cruise is part of events taking place within the Old Saratoga on the Hudson area.  Also check out another Canal Splash event for the Old Saratoga area- the 18th Century Day hosted by the Saratoga National Historical Park. 18th Century Day

  • Driving directions:  Take I-87 North of Albany to Exit 14.  Exit onto 9P N.  At first traffic light turn right onto Henning Rd.  At Rte 29 (Lake Ave) turn right.  Travel east for about 10 miles until you come to a T-intersection with a traffic light.  Turn right onto Rte 29/Rte 4 South. Continue on Route 4 south through the traffic light, Schuyler House in on the left, just after crossing over Fish Creek.

Spin 'Til you Dye
