Description: Throughout the day of Sunday, August 10, 2008, the North Country Underground Railroad Historical Association and the Champlain Valley Transportation Museum will offer rides on Lake Champlain on the Weatherwax, a replica 1820 sail ferry. During the ride, passengers will hear songs of freedom and stories of fugitive slaves who fled to Canada on the Champlain Line of the Underground which encompassed the Upper Hudson River, the Champlain Canal and Lake Champlain. Reservations can be made by calling the Transportation Museum at 566-7575.
Directions: The Weatherwax will leave from the Peru Dock Boat Basin which is located on Route 9 south of Platsburgh, New York. Take Exit 35 of the Northway and go East on route 442 to route 9. Turn left onto Route 9 and continue north to the Boat Launch.
